It is a fact that we all know that with the arrival of Henry Steele Olcott, there was a new revival in the field of Sri Lankan Buddhist education. The opening of the "Makuluduwa Vidyalaya" which brought fruit to the Buddhist education movement launched jointly by the patriots is a unique event for the village area.
This school was started on September 1, 1937, by a group of noble laymen in the area. Local philanthropist D.A. Wijewardena Ralahami donated the land for this worthy cause. The first principal Mr. Sudasinghe and the teaching staff of five started teaching the children in a hall made of coconut branches.
In the early days, the school was known as the Government Mixed School. Later on, the name of the school was changed to Makuluduwa Junior College and in 2014, the name of the school was changed to Makuluduwa New Model College.
Since its inception, 17 principals have been running the school. Honourable Member of Parliament Mr Somaweera Chandra Siri has supported the construction of buildings on the school grounds.
In 1977, during the tenure of Principal Bandusena, a new hall was constructed. The two-storied building was built during the tenure of Principal Tanthiriwatta.
During Principal L. B. Y. Perera's tenure Arrangements have been made to provide the small laboratory, Playground water facilities and library. The three-storied building was built and the classroom space was expanded in 2004, during the service of the principal of Imbulpitiya.
Principal T. S.W. Perera officiated to build a beautiful Buddha temple instead of the existed small Buddha house.
At present have been made to provide equipment for the computer unit and repair it as a complete computer unit with the support of shipxpress Arrangements were made by Mrs D.Kothalawala
It can be said that the school has become a well-equipped school by developing various sections. Development of student education while developing school infrastructure by improving physical resources. Projects related to attitude development, student welfare, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, teacher development, career guidance and community relations development are organized and implemented annually.
In this school, classes from 1st grade to 11th grade will be held and 5th grade will take to the scholarship exam and G.C.E. O/L exam Annually high results are obtained in the examinations conducted by the Govt.
According to those results, to get higher education, Colombo Devi Girls' College, D. S. Our students were admitted to Senanayake Vidyalaya, Lumbini Vidyalaya, Nugegoda Anula Vidyalaya, Piliyandala Madhya Maha Vidyalaya.
